Evaluation

1.     In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In my magazine I used a masthead, coverlines, central image, pugs, puff, hose style. A front cover needs to include a masthead, coverlines, central image, puffs, pugs, serif, sans serif, brand identity house style, mode of address etc…

2.     How does your media product represent particular social groups?
The social group I represented for teenagers, the colours and pictures are eye catching for teenagers.  The language I have used is informal so it was wrote more towards teenagers as teenagers wouldn’t want to read something with formal writing. The images I used stand out and would attract teenagers because they are related to teenagers’ lives. Also the text I use stand out to teenagers.

3.     What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
A company would want to distribute my magazine because its for teenagers and it’s for teenagers that like pop music and gossip, many music magazines are about rock music. There aren’t many about pop or drum and bass, or about nights out and parties.

4.     What would be the audience for your media product?
My magazine would be for teenagers mainly for more females, the age would be 16-21. They would be students in college or at the beginning of university.

5.      How did you attract/ address your audience?
I included lots of pictures in my magazine to make it attractive to the audience. The front cover had to stand out because it’s the first thing the audience see. I had a big pictures on the front cover so people would see it straight away. It doesn’t have that much text on the front cover but its enough for the audience to want to keep reading the magazine. The contents page has three photos on it that stand out and make the audience what to read on and read the stories.

6.      What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have used blogger, indesign, Photoshop, digital camera. I have learnt how to used Indesign and how to play around with the things on it. Also I never went on blogger before and I learnt how to post things on blogger.

7.      Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I have learnt how to use programs more and how to make a magazine look more like a magazine than a poster. I’ve also learnt about how to attract the audience more.

analysing front covers

Analyzing Front Covers

The magazine is a NME magazine. The masthead is in bold white writing. It is digger than the rest of the writing so it stands out to the audience. The cover lines are in white writing so they stand out against the background. ‘ I would never have got through the x factor auditions’ this stands out to the audience and gives you an idea of what the article is going to be about. The central image is the only image on the front page. It is an image of Florence; it shows that she is going to be the main feature in the magazine. It takes up the whole of the front cover to make it stand out and it shows that it’s important. The image is a medium close up. Her hair is red and it stands out to the audience it is the first thing you see on the front cover.  The colours on the front cover are simple, but they stand out.  The language isn’t formal. The fonts are simple but stand out to the audience.  Florence is wrote in black, it is the only text in the color black what makes it stand out to the audience, also it shows that Florence is going to be the main story in the magazine.

Evaluation Task

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Before I created my magazine I looked at other student magazines. It gave me an insight of what student magazines look like. I realised that I need to use more informal language in the magazine rather than formal language. Also when I looked at other magazines I realised that you need to draw the audience in by using colors and bold writing.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My magazine is aimed at students so I made it look like something I would want to read. I used photographs of students around college or places where students go so it looks fun and exiting. For the front cover I used a mid close up of a student drinking.  On the contents page I used images of students in college. I tried to make my images quite bright so they stand out. The text I used wasn’t too formal so it looked appealing to the audience. I used different colors throughout so they stand out to the audience.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
We looked at student magazines before to see how the layout was. I think my magazine was inspired by many magazines and the magazines I looked at gave me ideas of what I could put on my student magazine. I would sell my magazine at college. I have included things about fashion and the latest music in my magazine. I think this is good because it is different from having things about careers and university in a student magazine, it would make it more fun for the student to read. I think also it could be sold in different colleges for students to buy.

Who would be the audience for your media product?
My audience is 16-18 year olds, they would be college students, it would mainly be for females but some males could read it to.

How did you attract/address your audience?
I attract my audience through the font, the use of colour, image choice and the layout of the front page. The colours were quite bright and stood out. I used bright colours to highlight the most important parts on the front cover. The price is highlighted in blue to stand out. I tried to make the design on the contents page different to the front cover by using different colours for the writing. I wrote contents in purple but used the same font as the magazines name ‘wakie’. The magazines name ‘wakie’ was in a red colour.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
When creating this project I used software that I have never used before. I used InDesign what I had never used before, also I edited pictures in Photoshop which is something I don’t normally do.
